Police Confirm Son Arrested in Deaths of Rob Reiner and Wife

The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed that Nick Reiner, the son of acclaimed filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, has been arrested in connection with their deaths.

In a statement released Monday, December 15, LAPD officials said investigators determined that the couple were victims of homicide and that their 32-year-old son was responsible.

“Following an extensive investigation, it was determined that Robert and Michele Reiner were victims of homicide,” the department stated. “The investigation further revealed that Nick Reiner was responsible for their deaths. He was located and arrested at approximately 9:15 p.m. and booked on two counts of murder. He remains in custody without bail.”

According to law enforcement sources cited by multiple outlets, the couple were discovered inside their Los Angeles residence by their daughter, Romy Reiner, who contacted authorities. Investigators have not publicly released a motive, though sources familiar with the case indicated the incident may have followed a family dispute.

Nick Reiner has previously spoken publicly about struggles with substance abuse and periods of homelessness. Authorities have not indicated whether those issues played a role in the case, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Rob Reiner, a New York City native, is widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s most influential figures, with a career spanning more than seven decades. He first gained national recognition portraying Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the landmark television series All in the Family.

As a director, Reiner achieved critical and commercial success with films including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men. Earlier this year, he released a sequel to This Is Spinal Tap, marking a return to one of his most iconic works.

Authorities have not released further details, and Nick Reiner has not yet entered a plea. The case remains under active investigation.
